Essential Tips for Couples WEDDING Getting Ready Photos

Essential Tips for Couples Getting Ready Photos.

Getting ready photos is important for telling the whole story of your wedding. Over the past 16 years of shooting weddings, we have seen it all and have prepared a few tips on how to help it go smoothly so you can relax on your wedding day.

  1. KEEP IT ALL CONTAINED Have all the items you want photographed in a box ready to go. This will allow your photographer to have more time for candid shots. This includes your invitation suite, shoes, jewelry, perfume and a few extra blooms and greens from your florist.

  2. HAIR AND MAKEUP Hair and makeup should be done by the time we arrive. Once we arrive, we can capture finishing touches like lipstick and hairspray then we move on to capturing your details while everyone sets up for shots on the bed.

  3. HAVE YOUR FLOWERS WITH YOU You will want your bouquet photographed with your details so ask your florist to deliver them to your getting ready location.

  4. FIND THE LIGHT! When booking a location to get ready, find a place that has lots of natural light. I am talking about even with the lights off, the space is nicely lit by a large window or sliding glass door.

  5. BOOK AN AIRBNB Book an Airbnb instead of a hotel. This will give you more room to spread out with your wedding party. Airbnb’s have more places to hang your dress and more space to get ready.

  6. BOOK A SUITE Alternatively, book a suite with a separate bedroom or two. That way all the bags from your bridal party can be in the main room and the bedroom can be tidy for your photos.

  7. KEEP AREA BY WINDOW CLEAR A cluttered room will kill the vibe in your photos. You will most likely dress by the window for beautiful photos. A clean space will keep the attention on the emotions and important people in your photos. Keep all the bags by the door since that area will most likely not be photographed.

  8. GET READY IN THE SAME LOCATION In a perfect world you both will get ready at the same location. This will save travel time for your photographer meaning you will spend less money on their fee and you will have more time for them to bounce between rooms and capture more.

  9. ASK FOR FOOD ON A CART If getting ready at a hotel, ask them to bring the food on a cart and leave it that way you can roll it into the hall when you’re done giving you more space.

  10. PLAN A TOAST Plan on having a toast with the guys. Cool flasks or shot glasses would be a nice gift too and will look great in photos.

  11. EAT + HYDRATE! The day will be a whirlwind, this will be the best time to eat and hydrate. You will still fit in your gown or suit if you eat that PubSub.
